Fair Housing testing

The Denver Metro Fair Housing Center needs your help to obtain information about housing practices in our area. On-call volunteer testers are needed to play the role of home seekers to gather information about housing availability. Testers receive a stipend for completed tests along with travel reimbursement.

  • Fair Housing testers help ensure that people are not denied housing due to unlawful discrimination by meeting with housing providers and recording the details of their interactions.

In a basic test, two individuals similarly situated in most respects other than the protected class variable being tested are sent to the same rental or sales office. Each tester then provides a detailed written report about the experience to DMFHC staff.

  • Fair housing testing is an effective way to protect people against housing discrimination and secure the rights established under the Fair Housing Act.

If you are passionate about civil rights, oppose discrimination, and believe that all people should have equal housing opportunities, becoming a tester will allow you to put your passions and beliefs into action. description
